Home to Phoenix

Tuesday, November 28th, 2006

Here we are again, happy as can be. The team seems to be settling in with a full side every week. Now to build on our consistency.
First roll started a bit off, dropped through the middle but picked up to the end to finish with an unimpressive 53. They countered with an average 56.
With one exception the second roll started very shaky, improved a little mid-roll and improved a bit more to the end leaving us with another poor 51. Their response was to let us off, equalling our naff 51.
Mixed fortunes began the third roll, then the mid group kept pace which continued to the last giving us a reasonable 55. They put the pressure on with an impressive reply of 60.
Fourth roll started well, kept the pressure on through the middle but stumbled a little towards the end to finish with a much improved 58. They came back with a lowly 51 leaving us 1 pin down going into the last roll.
Fifth roll began slow, stumbled mid-roll but a decent finish gave us a miserable 53 and a grand total of 270. Needing to tie the roll to win, they hit a decent 59 giving them a grand total of 277 taking the match.

Away to the Bulldog Terriers

Wednesday, November 22nd, 2006

Tonight sees a return to the establishment formerly known as The Bulldog after a long absence.
They ‘kicked off’ by breaking the front pin and hitting a massive 70! We started ok, fell apart through the middle and didn’t recover until our anchorman’s 8 leaving us with a poor 51. Oh dear!
Second roll they hit another impressive 65. We began ok again, continued the pace mid-roll then collapsed finishing with a less than remarkable 54.
Third roll they slipped up and only managed a dissapointing 52. We opened the roll slightly better than the first two rolls, didn’t drop off through the middle then an impressive tail end gave us a very welcome roll total of 68.
Fourth roll they recovered with a tidy 61. We started consistant with the preceding rolls, again kept pace mid-roll then a wobbly finish left us lacking with a normally adequate 58.
Fifth and final roll they hit an amazing 71 and a grand total of 319. Our start was our worst so far, middle players scored well and a good finish gave us a decent 64 and a grand total of 295 which is normally enough but not tonight.

Home to the Royals

Monday, November 13th, 2006

This week sees a return to reserve strength.
First roll started on form, slipped just a little mid-roll then an impressive finish gave us a superb 67. They came back with a pretty poor 52 giving us a decent buffer to start.
Second roll saw another decent start, slipped again through the middle but another tidy finish saw a welcome 62. They responded with an impressive 66 picking back a few and putting the pressure on.
Third roll saw mixed fortunes to start, dropped badly through the middle including a sunshine from ‘Pinky’ McGuinness and didn’t improve much, only saved by a cracking 8 from anchor Rowley leaving us with a sorry looking 53. They left us with the impression they really don’t want to win by hitting a pathetic 47!
Fourth roll saw an awful start, another sunshine from first year Mr. Thomas was a part of a terrible middle and no improvement to the end left us with a diabolical 39! They only managed 54 in response so it’s all on the last roll.
Fifth roll started much better, continued the pace through the middle and a corking finish ended the roll with a neat 64 and a grand total of 285. Their response was a mediocre 54 giving them a grand total of 273 and us our fourth win in a row!

Away to the Grange Quins

Wednesday, November 8th, 2006

A few absentees tonight leave us with a bare 12 which is enough but no incentive to play well because everyone is guaranteed to play next match.
They kicked off with a smashing 67, setting a high standard from the start. We started bad, improved slightly through mid-roll then plodded on to a much needed 8 from our anchor and a normally reasonably total of 57.
Second roll they kept up the pace with a decent 62. We began worse than last roll, picked up through the middle and continued to a reasonable, but inadequate roll total of 59.
The third roll they start to slip slightly with a 59. Our starters showed a slight improvement over the previous rolls, the middlers kept pace then the tail enders tried but couldn’t take the total past 57.
Fourth roll they really slip up with a surprisingly low 48! We respond with a decent start, running through a tidy middle and kept momentum through to an impressive 66 to finish, taking the lead into the final round.
Fifth and last round they recover well and hit 65 giving a grand total of 301 and a roll target of 63 to take the match. Our start wasn’t good enough, picked up well mid-roll and finished in style with a roll total of 65 and match winning grand total of 304.
Two players hit 32 tonight and shared the high score kitty so congratulations go to Mike Rowley and the one-armed Colin Jones!
